New Energy Asia To Boost Malaysia’s EV Charging Infrastructure - DPM Fadillah
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that a newly established joint venture (JV), New Energy Asia Sdn Bhd, is anticipated to assist Malaysia in reaching its goal of deploying 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by the end of the year.
New Energy Asia is a JV between HICOM Engineering Sdn Bhd (HESB) and Hangzhou Flash Charging New Energy Co Ltd. (HFC) from China.
Fadillah highlighted that the partnership could rapidly accelerate the development of EV charging infrastructure in the country.
“So far, we have achieved over 4,000 (EV charging stations), and hopefully we can meet the (10,000) target with more JV companies like this in Malaysia.
“This will also help boost EV car sales in the country and reach our target in terms of charging stations, including the preservation of the environment,” he said after witnessing the JV collaboration here today.
HESB is a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Bhd, while HFC is a subsidiary of Lotus Technology Inc., which is mainly engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and sales of luxury EVs.
Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the JV is also aligned with the government’s initiative to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
HESB, in a statement today, said the strategic collaboration with HFC combines the industry expertise, strong brand heritage, and operational capabilities of both parties to deliver reliable and efficient EV charging solutions across Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
It noted that New Energy Asia will distribute a wide portfolio of EV charging equipment currently produced by HFC, as well as supply advanced energy storage systems to support the growing demand for sustainable home and commercial energy solutions.
“The EV charging equipment includes high-end Lotus-branded chargers, in particular the state-of-the-art 450-kilowatt (kW) liquid-cooled all-in-one direct current (DC) charger, capable of charging the Lotus Emeya from an EV state of charge of 10 per cent to 80 per cent within just 14 minutes.
“Its product line-up also features various other offerings, such as seven kW, 11 kW, and 22 kW smart alternating current (AC) chargers, as well as 30 to 240 kW air-cooled DC chargers and 300 to 450 kW liquid-cooled DC chargers,” said HESB.
It added that the seven kW, 11 kW, and 22 kW AC chargers can be customised to user requirements.
