KPJ Healthcare Launches First Centre Of Excellence At Johor Specialist Hospital

JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) today launched its first Heart and Lung Centre of Excellence at the Johor Specialist Hospital (JSH), marking a new phase in the group’s transformation towards an integrated academic healthcare system.

In a statement, KPJ Healthcare said the first centre of excellence under the KPJ Health System (KPJHS) will serve as the focal point for service coordination, supported by standardised treatment protocols, multidisciplinary case reviews and data-driven improvements across its network.

It said KPJHS integrates three key components — clinical practice, education (through KPJ Healthcare University - KPJU) and research and innovation — to strengthen clinical governance and deliver a more consistent patient experience across all KPJ hospitals.

“In line with this development, KPJ Healthcare has engaged Mayo Clinic Global Consulting to strengthen the group’s clinical and academic capabilities. This includes enhancing clinical standards, patient experience, educational frameworks and research initiatives to support the development of centres of excellence based on international best practices,” it said.

Meanwhile, Johor Corporation (JCorp) president and chief executive officer, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, who is also KPJU Chairman and KPJHS Coordinating Committee chairman Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, in the same statement, said the establishment of the centre of excellence reflects a clear mandate of one system, one standard and better outcomes.

“KPJHS provides a more structured direction to achieve measurable outcomes, ensuring that patients receive safer treatment, faster access and a consistently high-quality experience across our hospitals,” he said.

KPJ Healthcare president and managing director, Chin Keat Chyuan, said the launch of the centre marks a shift towards a fully integrated healthcare ecosystem.

“Clinical practice is strengthened through structured education and research that are embedded into daily routines, enabling us to improve treatment outcomes and deliver a more consistent experience across our network,” he said.

The establishment of the Heart and Lung Centre of Excellence at JSH opens a new chapter in the development of a network of 15 Centres of Excellence to be realised by 2030.

The initiative is a catalyst for KPJHS in improving clinical capabilities, service access and value to patients and communities nationwide.
