Horizon Quantum Advances Quantum Push With IonQ Deal

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Horizon Quantum Holdings Ltd (Horizon Quantum), a pioneer of software infrastructure for quantum applications, has entered into a strategic agreement with IonQ, a quantum platform company.

Under the agreement, Horizon Quantum will purchase one of IonQ’s first sixth-generation, chip-based 256-qubit trapped-ion systems, marking a further step in its efforts to unlock the full potential of quantum computing and enable broad quantum advantage.

Horizon Quantum Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Joe Fitzsimons said the collaboration will bring trapped-ion technology and world-leading gate fidelities to the company’s testbed.

“Bringing a state-of-the-art system with the capabilities of hundreds of qubits will provide an important and cutting-edge resource to bear in our quest to unlock broad quantum advantage for developers,” he said in a statement.

IonQ’s 256-qubit system is designed to deliver significantly higher computing capacity, featuring microwave gate operations and 99.99 per cent gate fidelity, enabling more accurate and reliable solutions through Horizon Quantum’s software infrastructure.

The system will also support “all-to-all connectivity” and parallel operations, allowing qubits to work together efficiently and enabling a broader range of complex computations.

With this technology, Horizon Quantum plans to expand its quantum hardware testbed beyond its initial superconducting system by incorporating a second, technologically distinct modality.

This positions the company among a limited number of players globally operating commercial quantum systems across multiple modalities, advancing its goal of building a hardware-agnostic environment for quantum software development.

Horizon Quantum also plans to expand support for trapped-ion systems within its Triple Alpha platform, alongside enhancing real-time runtime capabilities in its execution infrastructure.
