Boost Grassroot Level Preparations For El-Nino Phenomenon --Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) – Being prepared at the grassroots level for the El Niño phenomenon needs to be strengthened as preventive measures and early groundwork are the best defence against the increasingly unpredictable impacts of extreme weather.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this was agreed upon during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, which reviewed a presentation by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) today regarding the El Niño phenomenon and its national implications.

According to him, the meeting also agreed that METMalaysia should immediately intensify its outreach efforts and visit all states to brief and explain the phenomenon comprehensively.

Anwar said MTEN also reviewed a presentation by the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation on the future direction of the country's oil and gas services and equipment companies.

"The government is of the view that business operations and industrial expansion should be driven by the efficiency, agility, and wisdom of industry players themselves, while the government continues to provide clear, conducive policies that support growth," he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar also said the MADANI Government will continue to act wisely and with foresight in facing global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and the various global crises that are becoming increasingly challenging.
