Malaysia, Taiwan Formalise RM7 Mln Bioeconomy Collaborations
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has further strengthened its position in the regional bioeconomy sector through the formalisation of three strategic collaborations, valued at RM7 million, at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum held in conjunction with BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026 in Taiwan.
Malaysia’s participation was led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation’s (MOSTI) agency, the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation).
In a statement today, Bioeconomy Corporation said the collaborations cover insect technology, advanced biochar-based materials and bird's nest-based biotechnology products.
It said among the agreements formalised was a RM1 million collaboration between Sarawak-based Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) company Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Taiwan’s Monster Biotech Co Ltd for the purchase and supply of Black Soldier Fly (BSF)-based animal feed ingredients and BSF frass biofertiliser.
“A separate RM1 million agreement was formalised between BBA company MCHAR Sdn Bhd and Taiwan’s TCHAR Co Ltd for the initial purchase of 20 tonnes of biochar.
“In addition, BioNexus Status company Glyken Bio Products Sdn Bhd exchanged a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Bansho Co Ltd to expand the commercialisation and market access of Glyken's proprietary bird's nest-based biotechnology products in Taiwan, valued at RM5 million over five years,” it said.
Bioeconomy Corporation chief executive officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak said the collaborations would strengthen regional supply chain resilience and create new commercial opportunities.
“As global supply chains continue to face uncertainty, these strategic collaborations with Taiwan demonstrate how regional bioeconomy partnerships can diversify supply networks, strengthen food and industrial resilience and create new business opportunities across Asia.
“These collaborations will accelerate commercialisation, strengthen ASEAN–East Asia ties and reinforce Malaysia’s position as a trusted bioeconomy partner in the region,” he said.
He added that, guided by the National Biotechnology Policy 2.0 under MOSTI, Bioeconomy Corporation remains committed to facilitating collaboration among its BioNexus Status companies, BBA companies and strategic partners in Taiwan and other parts of Asia.
