Syamsul Farizz Appointed New ECERDC CEO, To Lead ECER 2030 Agenda
PUTRAJAYA, July 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Economy today announced the appointment of Syamsul Farizz Nadzeri as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC).
Minister of Economy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said his appointment coincides with the commencement of the implementation of the East Coast Economic Region Development Plan 2026–2030, which will guide regional development in a more sustainable, inclusive and competitive manner.
The new leadership of ECERDC will focus on the implementation of catalyst projects, facilitating quality investments and strengthening cooperation between the federal government, state government and the private sector.
"This appointment is made at a crucial phase in the implementation of the ECER development agenda, where our priority is to ensure that planned investments and projects are translated into quality jobs, increased income and broader economic opportunities for the people and local businesses," he said in a statement today.
Syamsul Farizz's experience in investment, infrastructure and large-scale project management is believed to strengthen ECERDC's capacity to effectively and efficiently carry out its mandate.
As CEO, Syamsul Farizz will lead efforts to facilitate investments, implement catalytic development projects and oversee socio-economic programmes throughout the ECER.
In addition, he has 20 years of experience in the real estate, infrastructure and investment sectors, including in the fields of corporate governance, commercial strategy, investment management and the execution of complex projects.
Before joining ECERDC, he held senior leadership positions at Pelaburan Hartanah Bhd and PROLINTAS, in addition to serving at Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, Bombardier Transportation and Scomi Group Bhd.
He also has international assignment experience in Saudi Arabia and India and is a Project Management Professional and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Syamsul Farizz, who holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying from the International Islamic University Malaysia, will replace Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat, who has been leading ECERDC since March 2019.
Akmal Nasrullah further stated that under the new leadership, ECERDC will continue to strengthen its role as a leading regional development agency by accelerating strategic investments, implementing high-impact projects and ensuring that the benefits of development are more widely enjoyed by the people in the ECER.
