Daicel Launches DURACON POM Grades With 30 Pct Recycled Content

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Daicel Corporation's High Performance Polymers (HPPs) SBU (formerly Polyplastics Co Ltd) has launched four new DURACON POM grades containing 30 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.

The new PCR-POM range includes standard, low volatile organic compound (VOC), sliding and tough grades, enabling customers to select materials that best suit their application needs. The grades were first unveiled at CHINAPLAS 2026 in Shanghai.

In a statement, the company said the standard PCR-POM grade offers a melt flow rate of nine, while the low VOC grade meets original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements. The sliding grade provides improved sliding properties, while the tough grade delivers performance comparable to virgin POM grades.

Since 2023, Daicel has offered its DURACIRCLE re-compounding service, which recycles plastic scrap collected from customer plants.

While the previous focus was on post-industrial recycling (PIR), which reuses manufacturing scrap, the new PCR-POM uses post-consumer POM collected from the market as recycled raw material.

Daicel said a major challenge in using PCR materials is maintaining consistent quality due to variations in material properties. Leveraging its long-standing compounding expertise and quality control technologies, the company has confirmed that key mechanical properties remain comparable to conventional grades despite containing 30 per cent recycled material, based on in-house test conditions.

DURACON POM has been adopted across a wide range of industrial sectors and features high mechanical strength and rigidity, excellent wear resistance, good sliding properties and high dimensional stability.
