China's Midea, 99 Speedmart Collaborate To Expand Home Appliance Network

SHAH ALAM, July 29 (Bernama) -- China’s smart home appliance manufacturer Midea Group (Midea) and 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd (99 Speed Mart) today announced a strategic collaboration to expand the availability of quality, energy-efficient home appliances across more than 3,100 branches of the latter’s retail chain nationwide.

Midea Malaysia managing director Mark Tam said the move aims to increase consumer accessibility to basic electrical goods through the largest mini-market retail chain in Malaysia.

He said the collaboration leverages 99 Speed Mart’s extensive distribution network to reach neighbourhood communities more effectively, in line with their “Near n’ Save” slogan.

“Through this collaboration, Midea can provide easier access to the latest home appliances and technology such as blenders, electric kettles, rice cookers, fans, toasters, ovens, vacuum cleaners and stoves directly at locations closest to consumers,” he said during the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Midea and 99 Speed Mart, here, today.

Also present were Midea’s Asia Pacific (APAC) Region president, Zeal Jiang, and 99 Speed Mart chief executive officer Lee Thiam Wah.

Meanwhile, 99 Speed Mart chief operating officer Yong Eng Kwang, who represented Lee, said the initiative allows the company to go beyond traditional grocery offerings by providing trusted home appliance solutions.

He said this step also complements Midea’s dedicated retail network expansion efforts, including the launch of 18 Midea brand stores nationwide last year.

According to him, starting this August, Midea products will be rolled out extensively across 99 Speedmart branches throughout Malaysia to ensure more households gain easy access to trusted products.

Yong added that the introduction of 27 Midea product models (SKUs) through the 99 Bulksales platform also opens up opportunities to serve the purchasing needs of corporate groups, organisations, and institutions, thereby driving business growth for both parties.

“As the nation’s largest mini-market retailer, we constantly strive to meet the daily needs of Malaysians by delivering greater convenience and added value through our network of branches,” he said.

Among the Midea items now offered at selected 99 Speed Mart branches are glass jar blenders, double-wall jug kettles, conventional rice cookers, table fans, pop-up toasters, and stick vacuum cleaners.

Midea is listed on the Fortune Global 500, as well as the Shenzhen and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges, and operates in over 200 countries with a global brand portfolio that includes Toshiba, COLMO, Eureka, and KUKA.
