Kioxia Unveils Universal Flash Storage 5.0 For AI Mobile, Edge Devices
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation has unveiled its Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 5.0 embedded flash memory solutions, designed to deliver the performance, efficiency and capacity required for the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled mobile and edge devices.
Kioxia, a leader in memory solutions, said the new products will be demonstrated next week at FMS: The Future of Memory and Storage and are currently available as commercial samples in one terabyte (TB) and 512-gigabyte (GB) capacities. Mass production is expected to begin by the end of 2026.
Built on the latest JEDEC UFS 5.0 standard, the devices leverage the MIPI M-PHY v6.0 physical layer and UniPro v3.0 protocol, supporting theoretical interface speeds of up to 46.6 gigabits per second (Gb/s) per lane and approximately 10.8 gigabytes per second (GB/s) of effective dual-lane read/write performance.
In a statement, Kioxia said the new UFS 5.0 solutions are designed to support increasingly demanding on-device AI workloads, enabling faster application loading, greater responsiveness and improved user experiences compared with UFS 4.1.
The solutions combine an in-house developed UFS 5.0 controller with Kioxia BiCS FLASH generation 8 3D flash memory, delivering significant improvements in performance, power efficiency and packaging over the company’s previous generation products.
Optimised for premium smartphones with on-device AI capabilities, Kioxia’s UFS 5.0 is also suitable for AI-enabled tablets, gaming systems, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) devices, robotics, smart security cameras and industrial edge applications that require fast local storage for data-intensive AI workloads.
Kioxia said it will continue advancing its UFS portfolio to meet growing demand for higher capacity, greater performance and improved efficiency in AI-enabled mobile and edge applications.
