Scrut Garage to Digitally Onboard 100 Workshops Ahead Of September Rollout

By Rosemarie Khoo

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Vehicle inspection platform Scrut Garage aims to onboard at least 100 workshops and automotive service providers in its digital platform ahead of its rollout to consumers this September, to build a digitalisation ecosystem for the local automotive service industry.

Operated by Scrut Technology Sdn Bhd, the platform currently has more than 20 companies, mostly owned by bumiputera entrepreneurs, said its co-founder Ahmad Aliff A S Ahmad Shariffuddin.

He said the application is designed to connect consumers with various automotive service providers, including workshops, service centres and related service providers via one digital platform.

“We are workshop operators ourselves since this company was established in 2017. We have hands-on experience with the real problems and challenges facing this industry.

“That is the reason we developed this software and application, as we best understood the needs of workshops and can produce better solutions than those who are not in this industry,” he told Bernama following the exclusive launch of the Scrut Garage application here today.

He said the launch session aims to encourage more workshops and automotive service providers to join the platform before it is launched to consumers, as well as helping automotive small and medium enterprises transition to a digital management system.

“Most workshops, especially small and medium-sized workshops, still do not have their own digital management system as software development cost is high.

“Through this platform, they do not need to make such a large investment. They need to join our ecosystem and share the same facilities to manage operations and acquire customers,” he said.

He said the participation of more service providers would allow users to access a more comprehensive network of services once the application is launched to the public.

Ahmad Aliff said Scrut Garage is an integrity-based platform that uses legitimate automotive data to increase transparency in the used vehicle ecosystem, while also reducing fraud and misleading information related to vehicles.

Among the services offered are vehicle history reports, vehicle inspections, and data solutions for automotive application programming interfaces (APIs).

“What sets Scrut Garage apart is that we are not a platform that sells cars. Since day one, the Scrut brand has been built on integrity. That is why people trust our inspection reports.

“In fact, today, people already use the word ‘Scrut’ as a verb when referring to inspecting a car. That is the principle we want to maintain when building this digital ecosystem,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aliff Ahmad said the company still has significant room for growth given that Scrut Garage currently only covers a small segment of the local automotive inspection and service market.

“The used car market alone records around 500,000-600,000 transactions per year, and we currently cover less than five per cent of that.

"For reconditioned (recon) vehicles, there are about 45,000 transactions annually, and we only cover about 15 per cent of that market. This shows that there is still great potential for us to grow," he added.
