Bursa Malaysia Shares Ease After Reporting Higher 2Q Profit

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Bhd's share price slipped in early trade despite the exchange operator reporting higher net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2Q FY2026).

At 10.40 am, the stock eased six sen to RM8.64, with 164,800 shares traded.

The company posted a net profit of RM71.77 million for the quarter, up from RM57.05 million a year earlier, while revenue rose to RM210.96 million from RM172.57 million, driven mainly by stronger securities trading activity.

Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) said Bursa Malaysia's average daily trading value (ADV) declined to RM2.37 billion in July 2026 from RM3.32 billion in the first half of 2026, mainly due to the renewed escalation of the Iran conflict.

"Looking ahead, we highlight two potential catalysts for ADV, namely an early 16th General Election (GE16) and the expansion of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) constituents from 30 to 50," it said in a note today.

HLIB maintained its "buy" call on Bursa Malaysia and raised its target price to RM9.85 from RM8.70.
