Govt Bears RM1.25 Bln LPG Subsidies For January-May -- MOF

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- The government has borne almost RM1.25 billion in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidies for the period from January to May 2026, said the Ministry of Finance (MOF). 

In a written answer dated July 29 issued today at the Dewan Negara, the ministry said that of the amount, RM1.02 billion was spent on LPG subsidies for Peninsular Malaysia, RM118 million for Sabah and RM102 million for Sarawak.

“Currently, the government undertakes the approach of implementing targeted subsidies for selected petroleum products in an effort to help ease subsistence struggles among the rakyat and ensure that important sectors of the country continue to operate in a stable manner amid a challenging geopolitical situation.

“One of the products subsidised by the government at the moment is LPG,” said MOF.

The ministry was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Dr Mustafa Musa about the amount of LPG subsidy expenditure and the government’s effective measures to address market leakage.

It said the government is always proactive in monitoring the subsidised LPG supply chain to ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible users, reduce leakage and protect the national supply.

In addition, the ministry said that strict enforcement measures continue to be enhanced through strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and other enforcement agencies to curb any leakage and ensure subsidies are channelled only to eligible recipients.
