BAC To Invest US$150 Mln In Nilai Manufacturing Facility
NILAI, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Sustainable cooling and heat rejection solutions company BAC has begun construction of its new manufacturing facility in Nilai, with a planned investment of US$150 million (US$1=RM4.09) to strengthen its regional manufacturing, engineering, and innovation capabilities while creating up to 200 high-skilled jobs by 2035.
BAC president Don Fetzer said Malaysia plays an important role in the company’s long-term global growth strategy, with the investment underscoring BAC’s commitment to the country and its plans to expand its manufacturing footprint in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
He said the new facility is expected to enhance production capacity, improve supply chain responsiveness and better serve customers in the data centre, industrial and commercial infrastructure markets across the Asia-Pacific region.
“This investment reinforces our commitment to expanding our manufacturing footprint, strengthening innovation capabilities and supporting customers globally with sustainable cooling solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industries we serve,” he said.
In a joint statement following the ground-breaking ceremony of the new facility here today, BAC and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) said the project will be developed on a 7.36-hectare site in two phases.
“Phase one, targeted for completion by the end of 2027, includes a 30,000-square-metre manufacturing facility and a regional engineering and manufacturing office, while phase two will focus on establishing a research and development centre and advancing manufacturing technologies,” they said.
They said the facility is expected to be fully completed by 2030 and will manufacture BAC’s range of closed-circuit cooling towers, adiabatic coolers, hybrid cooling systems and liquid cooling solutions using advanced manufacturing technologies and automation.
The investment is expected to further strengthen Malaysia’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem, with potential to support high-growth sectors including data centres and advanced electronics, they said.
“The facility will also house BAC’s latest climate-controlled product development and testing laboratory in APAC, enabling local engineering teams to develop and validate cooling technologies suited for tropical climates and high-density applications,” they said.
They added the Nilai facility is designed to achieve LEED Gold and FM-approved standards, incorporating energy-efficient features to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional manufacturing and innovation hub.
Meanwhile, BAC global vice-president and head of APAC Ted Lim said the new facility would enable BAC to be closer to its customers and partners in the region by strengthening its manufacturing, engineering, and technical capabilities in APAC.
“We can improve responsiveness, enhance collaboration and deliver solutions that support the region’s rapid industrial and digital infrastructure growth,” he said.
MIDA deputy chief executive officer (investment development) Zuaida Abdullah said the investment reflected growing investor confidence in Malaysia as a destination for high-value and sustainable manufacturing.
“MIDA remains committed to facilitating quality projects that champion both environmental sustainability and inclusive economic prosperity,” she added.
