Selangor Unveils RS-2, Targets RM600 Bln In Economic Value By 2030
SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government today unveiled the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), a five-year economic blueprint outlining six strategic missions across 25 focus areas, with a target of generating RM600 billion in economic value over the plan period.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the six missions comprise strengthening Selangor's economic leadership; balanced development and equitable opportunities across districts; building a caring and liveable state; developing a productive and inclusive workforce; advancing a sustainable, resilient and strategic state; and establishing an effective, people- and business-friendly government.
He said the state has also identified five priority sectors to drive growth towards 2030, namely electrical and electronics (E&E), aerospace, automotive, the digital economy and the creative economy.
“These five sectors will be actively developed through 13 initiatives to ensure sustainable growth in economic value and gross domestic product (GDP), with a targeted annual growth rate of 6.1 per cent.
“This will also strengthen investment, particularly from domestic sources, with a target of RM330 billion in total investments, while reducing the unemployment rate to 2.2 per cent by 2030,” he said when announcing the plan during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Commenting on the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), Amirudin said that the state’s economic value increased by RM133.3 billion, which is a growth of 28.97 per cent, since its introduction in July 2022.
He said that upon the completion of RS-1, 79 per cent of the initiatives had either been achieved or were at various stages of implementation, with nine of the 16 key performance indicators meeting their targets.
“Among the achievements, GDP recorded consistent annual growth of 7.5 per cent, exceeding the original target of between 6.5 per cent and 7.0 per cent.
“Investment value, employment and median monthly household income also surpassed their targets, with median household income reaching RM10,736, exceeding the target of RM9,290 by RM1,436,” he said.
Amirudin said other achievements under RS-1 included reducing the relative poverty rate to 8.5 per cent, raising the happiness index to 7.21 against the target of 7.00, and ensuring uninterrupted clean water supply, particularly by preventing disruptions caused by river pollution.
He added that permanent forest reserve coverage had increased to 31.7 per cent, while public satisfaction with local authority services exceeded the target, reaching 94.71 per cent.
Amirudin acknowledged that seven key indicators have yet to be achieved, including those related to environmental sustainability, absolute poverty, government welfare assistance and drainage management.
“These three pillars – the economy, social development and sustainability – require stronger implementation. There is therefore an urgent need for the state government to diversify its revenue sources more consistently and sustainably so that it is not overly reliant on land-related income,” he said.
