Malaysia Shows Strong GDP Growth of 6 Pct In Second Quarter 2026 - PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate jumped to six per cent in the second quarter of 2026, exceeding market expectations and thus recording the strongest second-quarter growth performance outside of the pandemic period since 2014.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the country's GDP has surged despite the world economy slowing down due to the global supply crisis and unrest in West Asia.

“This strength is made possible by the efforts of the MADANI Government to ensure that the lives of the majority of the people are not severely affected by the global inflationary pressures resulting from the series of crises in West Asia.

"Apart from assistance such as BUDI MADANI, Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), the MADANI Government has done a lot behind the scene to control prices and ensure that supplies continue to be sufficient," he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar, however, said there was still a lot that needed to be implemented by the MADANI Government to ensure that not only the growth momentum remained sustainable, but that the country's wealth and progress could be achieved together by the rakyat through more meaningful income, quality job opportunities and assistance to vulnerable groups.

“Insya-Allah, the MADANI Government will remain on the path of reform to elevate the status of the people and strengthen the economic foundations of our beloved homeland," he said.
