CPO Futures End Mixed On Profit-taking, Vege Oil Gains

By K. Naveen Prabu

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Crude palm oil (CPO) futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended mixed on Friday as weekend profit-taking offset support from stronger related vegetable oil futures.

Fastmarkets Palm Oil Analytics senior analyst Dr Sathia Varqa said buying sentiment was supported by a strong finish in related vegetable oil futures and lingering concerns over supply due to El Nino weather risks.

However, he said bouts of weekend profit-taking pared earlier gains.

“The positive momentum eased towards the close, with the most active third-month October contract ending below the previous day’s settlement price,” he told Bernama.

At the close, the spot-month August 2026 contract was unchanged at RM4,528 per tonne, while September 2026 fell RM32 to RM4,576 per tonne and October 2026 declined RM14 to RM4,710 per tonne.

Meanwhile, November 2026 added RM2 to RM4,807 per tonne, December 2026 rose RM17 to RM4,879 per tonne, and January 2027 strengthened RM28 to RM4,936 per tonne.

Trading volume decreased to 109,995 lots from 136,861 lots on Thursday, while open interest rose to 327,575 contracts from 322,540 contracts previously.

The physical CPO price for August South decreased by RM10 to RM4,520 per tonne.
