Gold Futures Ends Lower As Higher US Treasury Yields Weighs

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Gold futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended lower on Tuesday, weighed by higher US Treasury yields.
Quintex Intel global strategist Stephen Innes told Bernama that rising short-term US Treasury yields have kept gold’s upside relatively capped for now.
At the close, the spot-month August 2026 contract slipped to US$4,393.70 per troy ounce from Monday’s US$4,402.50 per troy ounce, and the September 2026 contract declined to US$4,410.30 per troy ounce from US$4,418.70 per troy ounce previously.
The October and November 2026 contracts both decreased to US$4,426.40 per troy ounce from US$4,434.50 per troy ounce yesterday, while the December 2026 and February 2027 contracts weakened to US$4,434.20 per troy ounce from US$4,442.30.
Trading volume appreciated to 182 lots from 132 lots on Monday, while open interest surged to 256 contracts from 201 contracts previously.
Physical gold was fixed at US$4,405.80 per troy ounce at the London Bullion Market Association’s afternoon fix on Aug 17, 2026.
