Maybank Posts Net Profit Of RM2.69 Bln In 2Q

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Malayan Banking Bhd’s (Maybank) net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2Q 2026) rose by 2.4 per cent to RM2.69 billion from RM2.62 billion a year ago.

However, revenue fell to RM16.07 billion year-on-year from RM17.07 billion previously, the bank stated in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.

The bank’s net interest income and Islamic banking income for 2Q increased by RM5.0 million, or 0.1 per cent, to RM5.38 billion, compared with the previous period's corresponding quarter ended June 30, 2025.

Its insurance/takaful service results decreased by RM86.5 million to RM308.0 million compared with the previous year.

Maybank’s other operating income increased by RM250.2 million to RM2.92 billion, mainly due to unrealised mark-to-market gain on revaluation of derivatives of RM2.13 billion for 2Q 2026 and higher gain on disposal of financial assets at Fair Value Through Profit or Loss (FVTPL) of RM630.4 million.

“The increases were, however, moderated by unrealised mark-to-market loss on revaluation of financial liabilities at FVTPL, lower net foreign exchange gain, unrealised mark-to-market loss on revaluation of financial investments at FVTPL, lower net gain on disposal of financial investments at Fair Value Through Other Comprehensive Income (FVOCI), and lower realised gain on derivatives,” it said.

Maybank’s overhead expenses for the quarter recorded a decrease of RM95.9 million or 2.5 per cent to RM3.68 billion, mainly due to lower personnel expenses, marketing expenses, and administration and general expenses.

The bank recorded a net write-back for impairment losses on financial investments of RM62.4 million.

For the cumulative six months (1H 2026), Maybank delivered a net profit of RM5.17 billion compared with RM5.21 billion previously, while revenue decreased to RM30.99 billion from RM33.95 billion a year ago.

On prospects, Maybank remains cautiously optimistic and will continue to balance responsible growth with prudent management of asset quality, capital and liquidity.

Anchored by its ROAR30 strategy, Maybank will continue to strengthen its core businesses in its home markets while further integrating its regional footprint to better serve clients across the region.

The group’s growth priorities remain focused on expanding scalable regional businesses across Islamic finance, wealth management, transactions and payments, and corporate and investment banking.
