Bursa Malaysia Turns Lower At Mid-Morning
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia’s key index turned lower at mid-morning, weighed down by selected heavyweights, particularly in the utilities, construction and financial services sectors.
At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 7.68 points to 1,734.04 from Thursday’s close of 1,741.72.
The benchmark index opened 1.98 points higher at 1,743.70.
The broader market was negative with losers outnumbering gainers 680 to 287, while 490 counters were unchanged, 1,396 untraded, and 98 suspended.
Turnover was at 2.31 billion units worth RM1.34 million.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank added six sen to RM10.68, and IHH Healthcare gained seven sen to RM8.22, while Public Bank was flat at RM5, CIMB Group slid seven sen to RM8, and Tenaga Nasional shed 18 sen to RM14.12.
On the most active list, JAKS Resources and AIMFLEX were flat at 12.5 sen and 13 sen, respectively, Zetrix AI slipped three sen to 29.5 sen, and both Oppstar and Tanco were 1.5 sen lower at 80 sen and 19 sen, respectively.
Of the top gainers, United Plantations surged 74 sen to RM32.02, Spritzer rose 31 sen to RM3.53, Ta Ann and FCW increased 15 sen each to RM6.20 and RM1.75, respectively, while MBM Resources improved 14 sen to RM5.18.
As for the top losers, Nestle dropped RM1.70 to RM101.30, Malaysian Pacific Industries shed 96 sen to RM41.86, MISC slipped 52 sen to RM7.96, Vitrox reduced 14 sen to RM9.36, and Padini gave up 13 sen to RM1.21.
Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia announced that short selling under the Intraday Short Selling (IDSS) mechanism for Zetrix AI’s shares has been suspended for the rest of the trading day after the last done price fell more than 15 per cent or 15 sen from the reference price.
It said short selling under IDSS will resume on Sept 1 at 8.30 am.
On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index erased 210.52 points to 18,064.64, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 102.96 points to 12,593.96, and the FBM Emas Index depreciated 80.07 points to 12,812.04.
The FBM Top 100 Index lost 78.76 points to 12,622.50, and the FBM ACE Index declined 79.22 points to 5,273.00.
By sector, the Plantation Index put on 26.22 points to 9,369.43, while the Financial Services Index shrank 30.47 points to 20,342.81, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.19 of a point to 189.19, and the Energy Index went down 7.91 points to 777.15.
