Utility Counters Weigh On Bursa Malaysia At Midday
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory at midday, weighed down by persistent selling pressure in selected heavyweights, particularly utility counters.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 11.81 points to 1,729.91 from Thursday’s close of 1,741.72.
The market breadth was negative with losers trumping gainers 783 to 328, while 483 counters were unchanged, 1,259 untraded and 98 suspended.
The turnover totalled 3.18 billion units, worth RM2.01 billion.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank added four sen to RM10.66, and IHH Healthcare gained five sen to RM8.20, while Public Bank was flat at RM5, CIMB Group slid nine sen to RM7.98, and Tenaga Nasional shed 34 sen to RM13.96.
On the most active list, JAKS Resources was half a sen higher at 13 sen, while Zetrix AI slipped three sen to 29.5 sen, Tanco inched down one sen to 19.5 sen, Inari Amertron slid six sen to RM2.56, and Oppstar eased three sen to 78.5 sen.
Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd issued an unusual market activity (UMA) query to Zetrix AI Bhd following a sharp fall in its share price and a sudden surge in its trading volume today.
It also announced that Acme Holdings Bhd will be renamed Land 33 Bhd, with its shares to be traded and quoted under the new name and stock short name, LAND33, from 9 am on Wednesday, Sept 2.
Of the top gainers, United Plantations surged 78 sen to RM32.06, Spritzer rose 39 sen to RM3.61, MBM Resources improved 21 sen to RM5.25, Ta Ann added 20 sen to RM6.25, and Mega Fortris gained 15 sen to RM2.26.
As for the top losers, Nestle dropped RM2.50 to RM100.50, Malaysian Pacific Industries shed RM1.22 sen to RM41.60, MISC slipped 47 sen to RM8.01, HeiTech Padu reduced 31 sen to 94 sen and Hong Leong Industries gave up 30 sen to RM17.64.
On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index erased 231.12 points to 18,044.04, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 138.72 points to 12,558.20, and the FBM Emas Index depreciated 107.97 points to 12,784.14.
The FBM Top 100 Index lost 104.93 points to 12,596.33, and the FBM ACE Index declined 106.19 points to 5,246.03.
By sector, the Plantation Index put on 24.46 points to 9,367.67, while the Financial Services Index shrank 61.10 points to 20,312.19, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.42 of a point to 188.96, and the Energy Index went down 8.28 points to 777.15.
