Vertex Material Valued At US$7 Bln, Targets Nasdaq Listing In 2027

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysian advanced-materials company developing copper-composite materials for industrial applications Vertex Material has emerged as a new unicorn, achieving a valuation of approximately US$7 billion (US$1=RM4.08) and is targeting a listing on Nasdaq in 2027.

In a statement today, Vertex Material said the valuation was determined in a report prepared by a Malaysian accounting firm.

The company said its proposed listing would run in parallel with a strategic plan to establish manufacturing operations in the United States (US), to support commercial scale-up, facilitate direct copper sourcing and streamline manufacturing logistics for its target customer base.

“The planned listing on Nasdaq is expected to strengthen its global brand recognition and provide access to capital to expand its US production footprint.

“Commercially, Vertex Material has already secured a significant offtake arrangement for 160,000 tonnes of product annually,” it added.

Founder and technical director Datuk Tan Chin Tong said the offtake arrangement provides the company with an important demand base, while the proposed US operation is intended to bring production closer to its suppliers and customers.

“The next phase is about execution. We need to demonstrate consistent product performance, expand manufacturing capacity and build a reliable supply chain around the customer demand we have secured.

“The proposed Nasdaq listing forms part of our longer-term internationalisation strategy, but our immediate priority remains the business itself,” he said.

Vertex Material said its proprietary copper-composite formulation and manufacturing process is engineered to help manufacturers use copper more efficiently by reducing the volume of pure metal required while maintaining the electrical, thermal and mechanical characteristics dictated by customer specifications.

It said the materials are developed for applications where 100 per cent pure copper is not technically required, allowing manufacturers to use a composite alternative that meets the necessary engineering tolerances.

The company said copper remains a highly sought-after critical material globally, driven by the exponential growth of modern infrastructure, while technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, data centre construction, and military defence systems require copper as a core functional material.

Citing the International Energy Agency, it said the global copper market was valued at US$248.2 billion in 2025, while global copper production is projected to face a 30 per cent deficit by 2035 based on current project pipelines and recycling efforts.

“Vertex Material aims to capitalise on this structural deficit by combining copper with other composite materials (to increase) the total quantity of usable material produced from a given baseline of raw copper.

“Having successfully established a pilot plant in Malaysia, the company is now preparing to expand its operations into the US to cater to the ever-increasing demand,” it added.

Furthermore, with the Americas housing some of the world’s largest copper producers, including the US, Canada, Peru, and Chile, the expansion strategically places the company near vital raw material sources to fuel its production, it said.
