MOTAC, MGA Explore Collaboration To Produce Malaysia-themed Gold Products
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is exploring opportunities to collaborate with the Malaysia Gold Association (MGA) to produce Malaysia-themed gold products to promote the country’s identity.
Deputy Minister Chiew Choon Man said the proposal was among the initiatives the ministry and industry players could explore together to strengthen Malaysia’s tourism promotion efforts.
“I also discussed with the MGA president that perhaps we could launch a programme to produce a gold card that reflects Malaysia’s identity.
“I also saw a creative gold card promoting various tourism destinations in Malaysia. Perhaps, we could move in that direction to promote Malaysia,” he told reporters after launching the Malaysia Gold Festival (MGF) 2026 here today.
Meanwhile, Chiew said Malaysia’s gold industry has significant potential for further development, including as an investment instrument that could help improve the public’s financial literacy.
He stated that gold not only possesses economic value but is also deeply connected to the history, customs, and culture of the people in the country.
“I see the (gold) industry as having tremendous potential in our country to be further developed, as well as becoming an investment instrument to educate the public about financial literacy,” he said.
MGF 2026 brings together approximately 70 local and international exhibitors across the gold and jewellery value chain for three days of trade, business networking, knowledge exchange and consumer engagement.
The festival is expected to generate up to RM100 million in transactions and attract between 10,000 and 15,000 local and international visitors, benefiting Kuala Lumpur’s hospitality, retail, food and beverage, transportation and tourism sectors.
