PM Lauds China's Effort In Helping Malaysia, Other Nations In Tech Advancements

HANGZHOU, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded China for helping Malaysia and many other countries immensely in advancing new technologies.
“The cooperation with China, as experienced in many countries, has helped immensely in our effort to venture into new technologies,” he said.
Commenting on the ongoing WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, he described it as “the Olympics of technical skills” which emphasised the breadth of global participation and the platform’s role in cultivating future-ready talent.
“I met young people from all over the world, as well as Malaysians. This is considered the Olympics of technical skills. A total of 1,400 young people are given the opportunity to be exposed to new technology,” he said at the opening ceremony of the 5th Global Digital Trade Expo here.
Held at the Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Centre, the five-day expo officiated by China’s Premier Li Qiang is one of China’s major digital economy platforms, highlighting artificial intelligence (AI) and global cooperation.
Malaysia is represented by 22 young competitors across 21 skill areas at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the world’s largest international skills competition, bringing together participants from more than 65 countries and regions.
The WorldSkills Competition brings together youths, industry, education and government leaders from around the world to advance Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
The Prime Minister’s three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou concludes today.
China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with total bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) between January and August this year.
