PNB Targets RM15 Bln Green, Transition Asset Investments Under Sustainability Framework 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) aims to channel RM15 billion into green and transition asset investments and RM500 million into social impact investments by 2030 under its newly unveiled Sustainability Framework 2026 (SF 2026).
Underpinned by 16 measurable targets, the framework is anchored on three strategic areas comprising Advancing Organisational Sustainability, Responsible Stewardship, and Strengthening the Nation-Building Agenda.
PNB said the framework seeks to further integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across its investments, operations and stewardship activities.
PNB president and group chief executive Datuk Rizal Rickman Ramli said SF 2026 builds on the sustainability framework introduced in 2022, under which the fund management company has progressively achieved eight of the 10 targets set.
“SF 2026 is therefore not a reset, but a progression. We are building on the foundations established over the past four years and setting a higher bar for ourselves, with greater emphasis on responsible investment, long-term stewardship, social impact and nation building,” he said in a statement today.
Under its previous targets, PNB achieved its Net Zero Enterprise 2025 target, while 100 per cent of electricity use for PNB Enterprise is supported by renewable energy certificates.
It has also invested RM8.1 billion in green and transition assets, alongside efforts to strengthen workplace practices and responsible investment across its portfolio.
Rizal said as an institution entrusted with the savings of millions of Malaysians, PNB has to ensure that the value it creates endures across generations while contributing to a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Malaysia.
Under Advancing Organisational Sustainability, PNB will maintain net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, reduce indirect emissions from business travel and strengthen sustainable procurement, while supporting its longer-term aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Through Responsible Stewardship, PNB will use its position as an institutional investor to encourage stronger and more sustainable businesses, with targets covering portfolio decarbonisation, climate resilience, nature and biodiversity as well as fair and equitable employment practices, including labour and living wage principles.
The third anchor, Strengthening the Nation-Building Agenda, focuses on social and financial inclusion through initiatives covering talent development, scholarships, community investment, financial literacy, heritage preservation and broader social impact, said PNB.
It added that the framework reflects its approach of investing Malaysians' savings responsibly to generate sustainable value while ensuring that the impact ultimately flows back to Malaysians through stronger investments, economic opportunities, financial inclusion, education and social development.
The fund management company has more than RM360 billion in assets under management, with investments spanning Malaysian corporations, global equities, private investments and real estate.
