Curia Expands Sterile API Manufacturing In Spain

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Curia Global Inc (Curia), a global contract, development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has announced a strategic investment to expand its sterile active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing capabilities for steroid and non-steroid products at its facility in Valladolid, Spain.

The expansion is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2028 and will strengthen the site’s capabilities in supporting injectable suspensions and other complex sterile formulations.

“Our Valladolid site is uniquely positioned to deliver variable batch size manufacturing for sterile APIs, and this investment is an important step in the continued growth of our sterile API capabilities,” said Curia President, API, Scott Wagner in a statement.

He said the investment would build on the site’s decades of sterile manufacturing expertise while giving customers greater flexibility in production scale and additional support from development through commercial manufacturing.

The investment will build on Curia’s sterility assurance and solid-state engineering expertise, including aseptic crystallisation, milling and micronisation. The expanded facility will use closed systems with barrier isolators to provide primary containment for sterile API handling while reducing operator interaction.

The upgraded capabilities will support flexibility in scales ranging from grammes to metric tonnes, alongside customisable aseptic packaging configurations designed to preserve sterility, reduce handoffs and mitigate contamination risks during transfer and storage.

The expansion follows Curia’s US$4 million upgrade of its API aseptic suites in Valladolid, completed in May, further strengthening the site’s integrated research and development (R&D), analytical and manufacturing services. (US$1 = RM4.08)
