Negeri Sembilan Has Approved Investments Of RM41.5 Bln Until June 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- A total of RM41.5 billion in investments were approved for Negeri Sembilan from 2023 to June 2026 under the purview of the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), with the potential to create 14,953 job opportunities.
MITI said domestic investments accounted for RM24.2 billion, or 58 per cent, while foreign investments amounted to RM17.3 billion, or 42 per cent.
The manufacturing sector was the largest contributor, with RM22 billion in investments, or 53 per cent. This was followed by the services sector with RM19.5 billion (46.9 per cent) and the primary sector with RM670,000 (0.1 per cent), MITI said in a written reply on the Parliament website today.
MITI was responding to Cha Kee Chin’s (PH-Rasah), who wanted to know Negeri Sembilan’s approved domestic and foreign investments from 2023 to 2026, the investment value, the number of job opportunities created, and the government's measures to ensure that those residing in the Rasah parliamentary constituency will benefit from the investments.
MITI also said the federal government, together with MIDA, the Negeri Sembilan state government, and relevant agencies, has continued to implement an integrated approach to ensure approved investments contribute to the state's economic growth and benefit the local population.
Measures include increasing employment opportunities for locals through new investment projects, expansion, and diversification, particularly in the manufacturing and services sectors, including high-skilled jobs.
Companies implementing investment projects are also encouraged to prioritise the recruitment and development of the local workforce in line with their skills requirements.
The government also encourages collaboration between industries and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, higher education institutions and talent development agencies to ensure that the skills of the local workforce align with industry requirements.
These efforts are further strengthened through vendor development programmes, business matching and supply chain programmes to increase local companies’ participation, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as suppliers of products and services to companies investing in Negeri Sembilan, MITI said.
The government also encourages investors to obtain support services from the local business community, including in logistics, mechanical maintenance and construction, to ensure that SMEs are involved directly in the investment value chain.
To ensure that quality investments generate greater added value, the government has emphasised investments involving technology, automation, digitalisation, research and development (R&D) activities, as well as high-skilled jobs.
"This approach aims to ensure that the employment opportunities created not only increase in quantity but also offer better career prospects, skills enhancement and income opportunities for the local population," it said.
