Budget 2027: Selangor Commits RM50 Mln To National Semiconductor Fund

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government has committed RM50 million to the National Strategic Investment Fund, joining Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Penang government in a RM150 million initiative to accelerate the growth of Malaysian semiconductor and advanced technology companies.

The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) said Selangor, Penang and Khazanah would each contribute RM50 million to establish the fund.

Selangor state investment, trade and mobility committee chairman and Sidec chairman Ng Sze Han said the partnership would combine the strengths and expertise of both states to develop Malaysian semiconductor companies capable of competing globally.

“Penang has strong capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, assembly and testing, while Selangor is developing its strengths in front-end integrated circuit (IC) design and chip innovation,” he said in a statement.

The initiative complements the RM1.2 billion investment by Khazanah and the Retirement Fund Inc, announced by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2027 on Friday, to help Malaysian semiconductor companies move into higher-value segments of the industry.

Ng also said Selangor looked forward to establishing a formal co-investment and referral framework between Ehsan Kapital and the National Strategic Investment Fund to accelerate commercialisation, business expansion and global growth.

He said Selangor’s contribution went beyond financial support, bringing its IC design ecosystem, engineering talent, investment expertise and a pipeline of promising Malaysian companies to the partnership.

“Our shared objective is to develop more Malaysian-owned semiconductor companies with their own proprietary intellectual property and technologies, and to commercialise Malaysian-designed chips for the global market,” he added.
