Kioxia Adds Direct Liquid Cooling Models To Enterprise SSDs
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation has added direct liquid cooling (DLC) models to its KIOXIA CM9 Series enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) lineup to support cold-plate-enabled server designs.
The new E3.S DLC models also support traditional air-cooled environments. The drives are currently being sampled by select customers and are being showcased at the 2026 OCP Global Summit, which runs from Oct 12 to 15 in San Jose, California.
Kioxia in a statement said direct liquid cooling is becoming increasingly important as artificial intelligence and other high-performance enterprise applications drive demand for greater computing power and more effective cooling solutions.
Rising power requirements are creating a need for innovative heat-dissipation technologies. DLC infrastructure can deliver energy savings while allowing more servers to be cooled per rack than traditional air cooling.
Designed for SSD context caching, the new KIOXIA CM9-DLC models offer read-intensive endurance of one drive writes per day (DWPD) and mixed-use endurance of three DWPD.
The drives comply with PCIe 5.0, NVMe 2.0 and NVMe-MI 1.2c specifications, and support the Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD v2.5 specification. They also feature dual-port support in the E3.S form factor.
The read-intensive models offer capacities of up to 30.72 terabytes (TB), while the mixed-use models support up to 25.6 TB.
