Budget 2027 Energy Investment Key To Sustainable Digital Infrastructure -- Equinix

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Budget 2027’s RM15 billion investment to strengthen the national electricity grid, together with the extension of green technology tax incentives until 2030, reinforces the importance of aligning digital infrastructure expansion with long-term energy readiness and sustainability.

Equinix Malaysia managing director Cheam Tat Inn said data centre expansion should be demand-led and responsibly planned, with close collaboration among industry players, utilities and policymakers to ensure Malaysia’s digital growth remains competitive and sustainable.

“Through our planned KL2 facility in Cyberjaya, we aim to support the country’s growing artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and enterprise digital ecosystems with the high-performance, interconnected infrastructure businesses need to scale securely and efficiently.

“We hope to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a strategic digital hub while supporting responsible, demand-led digital infrastructure development,” he said in a statement today.

Cheam said Equinix’s presence in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, supported by its interconnected ecosystem spanning Malaysia and Singapore, also positioned the company to help businesses expand across ASEAN and build more resilient, distributed digital operations.

He added that the continued development of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) further strengthened Malaysia’s role as a regional connectivity hub.
