CelcomDigi, Maxis Accept MCMC Spectrum Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) --  CelcomDigi Bhd and Maxis Bhd have accepted spectrum awards from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

CelcomDigi's wholly owned subsidiary, CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (CDTel) secured a 2x20 megahertz (MHz) in the 2600MHz spectrum frequency bands and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz spectrum frequency band for a total price of RM381.75 million.

In a statement, CelcomDigi said the 2x20MHz spectrum assignment in the 2,600MHz band would be for the duration of four years, and the 2x5MHz spectrum assignment in the 900MHz band is for five years.

"The new spectrum frequency bands will improve the company's capital expenditure efficiency and will enhance network capacity and service quality to support growing customer demand for quality and reliability," it said.

The telco said the assignment enables a contiguous 2x40MHz spectrum holding in the 2,600MHz spectrum frequency band and improves the company’s spectrum position in the 900MHz spectrum frequency band to support wider and deeper coverage across the country.

Meanwhile, Maxis secured an additional 2x10MHz of 2,600MHz spectrum for an upfront fee of RM203 million and annual fee component payable for the entire assignment period for a total of RM84 million.
