DNB To Accelerate 5G Adoption, Drive Business Gains
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) will work with its mobile network operator shareholders, customers and technology partners to accelerate 5G adoption and bring practical solutions to market, helping businesses improve efficiency, reduce costs and reach wider markets.
DNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail said the company’s next phase would focus on strengthening its network, enabling industry growth and translating infrastructure investment into economic value.
He said DNB would promote practical 5G adoption across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, education, agriculture and smart cities, with opportunities extending to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
“For an MSME, the value of 5G should be tangible. More efficient operations, better decisions through data, lower costs and access to wider markets.
“This is how national infrastructure translates into stronger businesses, more productive industries and better outcomes for the community,” he said in a speech at a document exchange ceremony marking the completion of DNB’s RM5.2 billion financing facility here today.
The ceremony was attended by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Azman said high-quality, resilient connectivity was fundamental to enabling data-intensive and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered applications to operate at scale.
He said the benefits of 5G must extend across all levels of the economy, from federal and state governments and local authorities to multinational corporations, government-linked companies, local enterprises and MSMEs.
DNB’s role was to provide trusted digital infrastructure and a collaborative platform for partners to innovate, differentiate their offerings and serve customers more effectively, he added.
Azman said DNB would continue to improve its network’s quality, capacity, resilience and capabilities to ensure it remained a reliable foundation for Malaysia’s digital economy.
He said the completion of the RM5.2 billion syndicated Islamic term financing facility strengthened DNB’s financial position, supported its long-term sustainability and maintained its capacity to invest in the network.
“It also reinforces our ability to operate with independence, accountability and commercial discipline as Malaysia implements the dual-network 5G model,” he said.
According to DNB, the financing facility was completed on Sept 29, 2026, refinancing its government-guaranteed revolving credit facility and establishing a sustainable long-term funding structure to support future growth.
Azman said the success of 5G would ultimately be measured by more than network coverage and speed.
“It will be measured by the opportunities it creates for a small business to reach new markets, for industries to compete globally, for communities to access better services and for Malaysia to participate fully in the digital economy,” he added.
