Malaysia's PPI Up 12 Pct In September 2026 - DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 12.0 per cent in September 2026, from 10.7 per cent in August 2026, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

On an annual basis, DOSM said among the main sectors in PPI, mining recorded a substantial increase of 54.1 per cent in September 2026, compared with 41.2 per cent in the previous month.

“This was primarily driven by the extraction of crude petroleum, which increased by 74.2 per cent,” it said in its PPI Local Production report for September 2026.

The PPI measures changes in the prices domestic producers receive for their goods and services, before they reach consumers.

DOSM said the manufacturing sector increased by 9.4 per cent, from 8.8 per cent in August 2026, mainly contributed by the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (35.0 per cent) and the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (12.9 per cent).

The agriculture, forestry and fishing sector rose moderately by 2.9 per cent, from 4.6 per cent in the preceding month, with animal production up 11.9 per cent.

“The utility sectors also recorded increases, with electricity and gas supply and water supply rising by 5.5 per cent and 3.2 per cent, respectively,” it said.

On a month-on-month basis, the PPI Local Production rose 1.6 per cent in September 2026, up from 1.0 per cent in August 2026.

The mining sector recorded a 10.3 per cent increase (August 2026: 6.7 per cent), driven by the extraction of crude petroleum index (13.6 per cent).

The PPI local production increased by 10.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2026, from a 7.4 per cent increase in the previous quarter; the increase was contributed by all sectors, particularly mining (41.9 per cent) and manufacturing (8.8 per cent) sectors.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the PPI increased by 2.8 per cent, slower than a 6.8 per cent increase in the second quarter of 2026, mainly supported by the manufacturing sector (3.6 per cent).
