Invest Johor Identifies Five Potential Sectors At Nexus Sedenak

By Hasnah Jusid

JOHOR BAHRU, 30 Oct (Bernama) – Invest Johor has identified five key potential sectors for development at Nexus Sedenak, which is set to become a new industrial and supply chain hub under the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Invest Johor chief executive officer Natazha Hariss said the five are advanced manufacturing, integrated logistics, agricultural and food technology, green technology, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Infrastructure development and access to major transport networks support Nexus Sedenak's strategic location, and this enhances its attractiveness to local and international investors, he said.

Investment and job targets are expected to be achieved gradually, in line with the area’s phased development, infrastructure readiness, and the entry and implementation of the investment projects.

“Invest Johor will continue working with developers, relevant agencies and industry players to help accelerate investment realisation, and to ensure the local community benefits from job opportunities,” he told Bernama.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, presenting Budget 2027 on Oct 9, said Nexus Sedenak will become a new industrial growth hub in the northern part of the JS-SEZ, with potential investments of RM12 billion and the creation of 45,000 jobs.

Anwar said under the Queen Bee approach, a special task force has been established to coordinate cross-agency negotiations to attract leading companies in strategic sectors to invest in JS-SEZ.

Elaborating further, Natazha said Invest Johor welcomes Budget 2027, which gave special emphasis to the JS-SEZ. This reflects the federal government's continued commitment to strengthening Johor's position as a regional strategic investment destination.

He said the Nexus Sedenak's development and the implementation of the Queen Bee approach were complementary initiatives to strengthen the state's investment ecosystem.

“Nexus Sedenak will open up a new industrial growth area, while the Queen Bee approach will help attract leading global companies together with their supply chain ecosystems,” he said.

The strategy is important in attracting high-impact investment. The presence of leading companies will draw direct investments and also attract suppliers, technology partners and supporting companies within their supply chains, he said.

Establishing the Special Task Force will strengthen coordination between federal and state government agencies, particularly in addressing investors' requirements involving approvals, infrastructure, utilities and workforce needs, he said.

“Decision-making and investment implementation processes can be simplified and accelerated with more integrated coordination,” he said.

Natazha said Invest Johor was ready to play the liaison and facilitator role for investors and relevant agencies to realise strategic investments.

He said the next priority was to ensure that these initiatives translate into actual investments, high-value job opportunities and wider economic benefits for local companies and the people.
