Yeoh said the completion of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project marked an important milestone for Malaysia's railway infrastructure and demonstrated the capabilities of local engineers and technical professionals in delivering complex infrastructure projects.

"We are proud to have contributed to this national project, which demonstrates the capability of Malaysian engineers and technical professionals to deliver complex infrastructure of this scale.

"These awards are a recognition of the collective efforts of our people and reinforce our commitment to developing local talent, embracing new technologies and delivering infrastructure that creates lasting value for the nation," he said.

The RM8.9 billion project, spanning 192 kilometres and comprising 11 stations, completes the final link of Malaysia's electrified double-track railway network, connecting Padang Besar in the north to Johor Bahru in the south.

It enables Electric Train Service (ETS) journeys between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru in approximately four hours and 20 minutes, enhancing connectivity and supporting economic development along the southern corridor.

The project involved complex civil and structural engineering works, trackworks and railway systems, with construction carried out alongside an operational railway while maintaining existing passenger and freight services.

It recorded 28 million safe working hours, with Building Information Modelling (BIM), drones and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technologies used in construction planning and execution.

More than 3,000 Malaysian engineers and technical specialists contributed to the project, which supported over 35,000 employment opportunities throughout construction, with the workforce peaking at nearly 10,000.
