China Investors Interested In Developing Aluminium, Green Energy Facilities In Bintulu – Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) – Investors from China are interested in developing an aluminium production plant as well as a green energy facility in Samalaju, Bintulu, Sarawak, to support manufacturing activities oriented towards the international market.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposed investment not only involves the construction of a manufacturing plant, but includes the development of green energy sources to supply electricity to the factory's operations.

He said the effort to attract investments has been carried out for some time, taking into account the potential of Samalaju as an industrial area capable of accommodating large-scale manufacturing activities.

“In my opinion, this can help Sarawak. In fact, I have discussed this matter with the premier and several ministers from Sarawak for this investment to be made in Samalaju which has quite a large industrial potential.

“They intend to invest not only in a manufacturing plant but also in green energy to supply electricity to the factory,” he told reporters after attending the Malaysia-China Cooperation Meeting on Investment, Trade and Economic Empowerment here today.

He said the investment proposal also takes into account the need to penetrate international markets given the limited size of Malaysia’s domestic market.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid held a meeting with 58 Chinese businessmen in Malaysia to explore investment opportunities in various high-potential sectors.

He added that the investor group had given initial indications of investments totalling US$15 billion in Malaysia, with a focus on high-tech and value-added activities.
