MRM Health, Biocodex Partner On 15 Mln Euros Microbiome Medicine Facility
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Biotech company, MRM Health has formed a strategic partnership with French pharmaceutical company, Biocodex, which will invest 15 million euros in a manufacturing facility for microbiome-based medicines. (1 Euro = RM4.54)
The facility, to be built over the coming years at Biocodex’s site in Beauvais, France, will produce live biotherapeutic products, medicines based on live bacteria. Biocodex will fund, build, own and operate it, while MRM Health will contribute its anaerobic manufacturing expertise to the design.
“Developing next-generation live biotherapeutics into successful medicines requires manufacturing capabilities that are just as sophisticated as the underlying science,” said MRM Health Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Sam Possemiers.
In a statement, he said the partnership establishes a scalable manufacturing pathway from clinical development to future commercial production.
Meanwhile, Biocodex CEO, Nicolas Coudurier said the collaboration builds on the partnership the two companies began last year.
“By combining our expertise, we are helping to strengthen European industrial capabilities in the field of live biotherapeutics,” added Coudurier.
The facility will support MRM Health’s lead candidate, MH002, and other programmes based on its CORAL platform, from process development and clinical manufacturing through to potential commercial supply. It will also be able to serve other live biotherapeutic programmes.
Under the partnership, Biocodex may provide process development, analytical testing and manufacturing services for individual programmes under separate agreements. The arrangement is non-exclusive, and MRM Health retains ownership of its platform and product-related innovations, leaving it free to work with other manufacturers.
Process development and pilot manufacturing are expected to begin by 2027, with commercial-scale manufacturing targeted from 2030.
