MCE Set To Gain From Perodua QV-E Development, EV Localisation Push -- HLIB

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- Electronic component manufacturer MCE Holdings Bhd is set to benefit from the development of Perodua’s maiden electric vehicle (EV) model, QV-E, for which it supplies the infotainment system and other electronic components, said Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB).

In a research note, HLIB said MCE already has the necessary building blocks in place, including an experienced engineering team, its new high-tech (technology) plant in Serendah, and technical tie-ups with partners in emerging technologies such as smart cockpit systems, mmWave radar and advanced driver-assistance systems.

“As original equipment manufacturers accelerate localisation and raise the electronic content per vehicle, MCE is well positioned to capture higher-value programme wins and expand its relevance within the automotive supply chain,” it added.

HLIB noted that Malaysia is at a crossroads in its efforts to move up the automotive value chain, with policy direction increasingly focusing on the localisation of higher-value automotive components.

Against this backdrop, it said the Malaysia-based OEM stands out as a key beneficiary, as the contract for Perodua’s QV-E model generates revenue of approximately RM3,000 per vehicle, about 10 times the group’s typical per-vehicle contract value.

“More importantly, this marks a breakthrough for MCE as it establishes the group’s track record in producing higher-value infotainment systems.

“This should open up new opportunities for MCE to secure similar contracts from prospects across both internal combustion engine and EV models,” HLIB added.
