Elsa Unit Secures Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Inspection Contract
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- Elsa Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary Elsa Energy Sdn Bhd has accepted letters of award from a major exploration and production company to provide autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) subsea structure inspection services for Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
The integrated oil and gas services and equipment solutions provider said in a statement today that the contract carried a firm order value to commence AUV inspection in the third quarter of 2026. It also provides opportunities for future work orders throughout the tenure.
The contract period is from June 19, 2026, to June 18, 2027, with a one-year extension option.
Elsa’s managing director Daniel Ilham Khong said the contract reflected the accelerating adoption of autonomous underwater inspection technology within Malaysia’s offshore oil and gas industry.
"We believe this is a first-of-its-kind AUV deployment for subsea structure inspection involving vertical offshore platform structures in Malaysia. Unlike pipeline inspection, this application requires a distinctly different category of autonomous technology to navigate complex vertical architecture,” he added.
Under the job scope, Elsa Energy will deploy AUV systems to conduct autonomous underwater inspections of offshore platform structures. The operational mandate encompasses the provision of AUV systems, platform-deployed underwater inspection, comprehensive data collection and data analysis.
There are over 12,000 km of pipelines and over 400 offshore platforms operating in Malaysian waters, all of which require periodic structural integrity inspections to ensure operational safety and production reliability, the statement said.
