Federal Govt's Statutory Debt Remains Under 65 Pct Limit As Of End-march 2026 -- MoF
KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) --The Federal Government's statutory debt stood at 61.9 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) as of end-March 2026, still below the statutory limit of 65 per cent, according to the Finance Ministry (MoF).
The ministry said the government continues to maintain fiscal discipline and comply with all statutory debt limits set.
“The government has never failed to meet its interest payment obligations or repaying matured debt.
“This reflects the country's debt position that remains manageable, supported by a deep domestic financial market, a stable debt profile, and disciplined fiscal management,” the MoF said in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat, published on the Parliament website today.
According to the ministry, as of the end of March 2026, the Federal Government's total debt stood at 63.1 per cent of GDP compared with 65.2 per cent in 2025.
At the same time, offshore borrowings amounted to RM20.8 billion, well below the RM35 billion ceiling, while Malaysian Treasury Bills totalled RM4.5 billion, remaining below the statutory limit of RM10 billion, the ministry added.
