Malaysian Lubricant Producer Hyrax Oil Expands Reach Across Five Southeast Asian Markets
BANGKOK, July 21 (Bernama) -- Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian producer of lubricants and transformer insulating oils, signed agreements on Tuesday to expand the reach of its Hyrax Estramol ester transformer fluids into Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Hyrax Oil said in a statement that, under a distributorship agreement, Metson Power (Thailand) Co. Ltd. has been appointed as its preferred distributor of mineral and ester-based transformer oils as well as industrial lubricants across the five countries.
Separately, the company also signed a technical services partnership agreement appointing Eternity Technology Engineering Co. Ltd. as its exclusive technical services partner in Thailand. The partnership covers transformer retrofilling, engineering support, technical training and the exchange of engineering experts.
"With demand growing for cleaner and safer power infrastructure across Southeast Asia, the partnerships position the company to strengthen its regional presence while supporting customers in the transition to biodegradable insulating fluids, including its Hyrax Estramol range, backed by local distribution and engineering expertise," it said.
The agreements were signed at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok. Hyrax Oil was represented by its founder and group executive chairman Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin and group chief operating officer Muhamad Lutfi Datuk Mohd Isa.
Metson Power was represented by its founder Mol Chew Poh Soon and managing director Eric Soon Wei Siang, while Eternity Technology Engineering was represented by its directors, Chaiyanate Niamson and Varanit Tapvong.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysia's Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah.
Hazimah described the agreements as a defining milestone for Hyrax Oil as the company introduces its Hyrax Estramol range to Thailand's ester-based transformer oil market while strengthening its presence across the Greater Mekong subregion.
"By combining Metson Power's regional distribution network with Eternity Technology Engineering's technical expertise, we are delivering not only Malaysian solutions but also the knowledge and support needed to advance safer and more sustainable power infrastructure across ASEAN," she said.
Hazimah added that, beyond their environmental benefits, the partnerships would also deepen trade and industrial ties between Malaysia and Thailand.
She highlighted that the collaborations create a new export channel for a higher-value, palm-derived product, adding value to a domestic commodity instead of exporting it in raw form, while extending the reach of Malaysian manufacturing across the Greater Mekong subregion.
For Thailand and its neighbouring countries, Hazimah said the collaboration would facilitate technology transfer and strengthen local engineering capabilities through Eternity Technology Engineering's team, supporting a more reliable and sustainable power supply to underpin industrial growth and investment across the region.
Established in Malaysia in 1991, Hyrax Oil manufactures lubricants and transformer insulating fluids, including its Hyrax Estramol ester fluids, transformer oils, speciality products and petroleum derivatives.
The company has a presence in more than 40 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
