KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures are expected to trade with a slight bearish bias within a range of 1,690 to 1,720, said an analyst.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said investors will continue to monitor developments in West Asia, crude oil prices and the impact of the United States' trade policies, which are likely to affect market sentiment.
“Buying interest is likely to remain selective, with energy and plantation stocks supported by higher commodity prices, while defensive sectors such as utilities and telecommunications may continue to attract interest amid the uncertain market environment,” he told Bernama.
For the week just ended, the FBM KLCI futures contracts ended mostly lower.
On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the July 2026 contract fell 35.0 points to 1,702.0, the August 2026 contract declined 34.5 points to 1,702.5, while the September 2026 and December 2026 contracts lost 34.0 points each to 1,682.0 and 1,684.5, respectively.
Weekly turnover fell to 38,614 lots from 39,884 lots a week earlier, while open interest rose to 51,094 contracts from 47,501 contracts previously.
On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the barometer index fell 30.43 points to 1,702.02 from 1,731.45 a week earlier.
