Bursa Malaysia Higher At Midday, Tracking Wall Street's Cues
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia was higher at midday, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street amid geopolitical uncertainties.
At 12.30 pm, the FBM KLCI rose 3.20 points to 1,728.93 from Monday’s close of 1,725.73.
The benchmark index opened 0.21 point higher at 1,725.94, and fluctuated between 1,722.78 and 1,727.82 during the morning trading session.
The broader market was positive, with gainers outpacing losers 539 to 399, while 518 counters were unchanged, 1,1,280 untraded and 16 suspended.
Turnover totalled 1.50 billion units worth RM1.29 billion.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said the FBM KLCI will extend its gains today, particularly in the technology sector.
“The FBM KLCI continued to extend its gains, with the technical indicators also showing encouraging signals at the current juncture.
“Key resistance is pegged at 1,740–1,745, with support expected around 1,705–1,710,” it said in a note.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank fell eight sen to RM10.70, CIMB Group and IHH Healthcare rose four sen each to RM8.05 and RM8.34, respectively, Public Bank gained six sen to RM5.26, and Tenaga Nasional gave up four sen to RM14.46.
Among active stocks, NationGate Holdings added seven sen to RM1.30, Zetrix AI inched up one sen to 73.5 sen, HHRG and Velesto Energy remained at 11.5 sen and 25 sen, respectively, but MR DIY lost nine sen to RM1.53.
Leading gainers included Malaysian Pacific Industries, which climbed RM1.38 sen to RM47.40, Kelington Group rose by 33 sen to RM8.53, Kuala Lumpur Kepong gained 26 sen to RM21.26, Petronas Dagangan went up 24 sen to RM19.68, and UMS Integration grew 23 sen to RM7.69.
On the losers’ list, Nestle shed RM1.80 to RM100.90, United Plantations fell 16 sen to RM34.04, Hong Leong Industries slid 16 sen to RM17.84, Gas Malaysia eased 11 sen to RM5.06, and Petronas Gas was 10 sen lower to RM17.36.
Among the broader indices, the FBM Mid 70 Index climbed 80.72 points to 18,191.23, the FBM Emas Shariah Index perked up 27.51 points to 12,584.87, and the FBM ACE Index advanced 16.33 points to 4,997.65.
The FBM Emas Index also surged 34.32 points to 12,786.74, and the FBM Top 100 Index grew 31.59 points to 12,616.79.
By sector, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.43 points to 187.73, the Financial Services Index soared 70.62 points to 20,508.82, the Plantation Index gained 44.61 points to 9,349.67, and the Energy Index increased by 0.96 points to 764.85.
