Hainan Delegation Strengthens ASEAN Trade Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- An economic and trade delegation from Hainan Province, China, recently concluded a five-day visit to Thailand and Indonesia, promoting Hainan Free Trade Port policies, key industrial parks and investment opportunities.

The delegation engaged in exchanges with relevant government agencies, business associations and enterprises in Southeast Asia, further expanding trade and investment cooperation between Hainan and ASEAN countries, according to a statement.

In Bangkok, the China (Hainan)-Thailand Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Conference, co-hosted by the Hainan Provincial Government and the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), drew around 200 guests from Thai institutions.

At the conference, the Haikou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone representatives presented the Hainan Free Trade Port's preferential policies and industrial plans, while BOI Deputy Secretary-General, Tanita Sirisup introduced Thailand's business environment and investment opportunities.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hainan Provincial Committee, the China Chamber of International Commerce Hainan Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand, creating a platform for business exchanges and cooperation between enterprises. A signing ceremony was also held for six projects during the event.

The Thailand-China Cooperation Expo 2026 was held at the IMPACT Convention and Exhibition Center in Bangkok from July 22 to 25. Hainan organised the participation of 12 enterprises in the expo and set up the Hainan Pavilion, showcasing products including coffee, agarwood items, coconut specialities, tropical foods and agricultural products, presenting Hainan's distinctive industries and brands to the Southeast Asian market.

While in Thailand, the delegation exchanged views with companies to explore cooperation opportunities in seed research, regional supply chain headquarters development and coconut product processing.

Furthermore, in Jakarta, Indonesia, the delegation visited local business associations, including the Indonesia China Business Council and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bilateral Committee for China, and hosted the China (Hainan)-Indonesia Economic and Trade Cooperation Symposium, where discussions focused on potential cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, digital economy and other sectors.

The trip further extended the international cooperation network of the Hainan Free Trade Port and created fresh opportunities for deepening economic and trade exchanges, as well as advancing industrial collaboration between Hainan and its ASEAN partners.
