CAAM Seeks Public, Industry Feedback On Low Altitude Economy Framework
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has invited industry players, government agencies, academia and members of the public to submit feedback by Sept 2 on a proposed national framework that will chart the country's Low Altitude Economy (LAE).
CAAM chief executive officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud said the proposed Malaysia LAE Framework is aimed at providing the country's long-term strategic direction for developing a safe, secure, sustainable and commercially viable low-altitude aviation ecosystem.
He said the framework aims to unlock the potential of emerging technologies, including Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous systems and digital connectivity, to transform service delivery across sectors such as logistics, agriculture, infrastructure inspection, emergency response and environmental monitoring, while paving the way for future passenger mobility.
Norazman said the public consultation represents an important step in translating Malaysia's LAE ambitions into a coordinated and implementable national framework
"Malaysia has the industrial capabilities, talent and technological foundations to build a competitive LAE. However, its success will depend on having a clear direction and close coordination among regulators, government agencies, industry, academia, technology developers, investors and the wider public," he said in a statement here today.
He said the consultation gives stakeholders the opportunity to help shape a framework that supports innovation and commercial growth while ensuring aviation safety, security and public confidence remain at the centre of its development.
He said the proposed framework was developed following feedback gathered during the Malaysia Low Altitude Economy Forum 2026 held on June 24 and is intended to complement the 13th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 and the Malaysia Drone Technology Action Plan 2022-2030.
"The framework will set out the definition and scope of the LAE, its Vision, Mission and Guiding Principles, as well as four Strategic Pillars: Safe Aircraft, Safe Operations, Connected Infrastructure and Thriving Industry. These are supported by key enabling foundations and a phased Implementation Roadmap for the development of Malaysia's LAE ecosystem," he said.
Norazman said CAAM is inviting written feedback from industry players, government agencies, academia, professional bodies, investors and members of the public before finalising the framework.
