BNM’s International Reserves Rise To US$132.1 Bln As At July 31

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) international reserves rose to US$132.1 billion as at July 31, 2026, from US$131.8 billion as at July 15, 2026.

In a statement today, the central bank said the reserves position was sufficient to finance 4.7 months of imports of goods and services and was 0.9 times the total short-term external debt.

BNM said the main components of the international reserves comprised US$116.8 billion in foreign currency reserves, US$1.3 billion in International Monetary Fund (IMF) reserve position, US$6.0 billion in Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), US$5.8 billion in gold and US$2.2 billion in other reserve assets.

The central bank said its total assets stood at RM636.51 billion as at July 31, 2026, comprising RM535.12 billion in gold, foreign financial assets and other reserves, including SDRs, RM12.68 billion in Malaysian government papers, RM1.50 billion in deposits with financial institutions, RM20.83 billion in loans and advances, RM4.54 billion in property and equipment, and RM61.84 billion in other assets.

Meanwhile, BNM’s capital and liabilities comprised RM100 million in capital, RM195.43 billion in reserves and RM183.05 billion in currency in circulation.

Deposits by financial institutions stood at RM122.95 billion, federal government deposits at RM8.26 billion and other deposits at RM85.49 billion, while Bank Negara papers amounted to RM10.30 billion, allocation of SDRs stood at RM26.71 billion and other liabilities at RM4.21 billion.
