Digital Economy On Track To Account For 30 Pct Of GDP By 2030

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The digital economy is on the right track to account for 30 per cent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said policies that have been launched, including the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan 2026-2030 and Malaysia Digital 2030, are among the main drivers in ensuring that the target is achieved.

"As of last year, the digital economy’s contribution to the GDP stood at 25.5 per cent.

"The Digital Ministry, through the MyDigital Corporation, has been tasked to ensure that all (the policies) achieve their set targets,” he said to reporters after launching the Boost SME platform here today.

Gobind added that the ministry remains committed to realising Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's vision of transforming Malaysia into an AI Nation by 2030.

On Budget 2027, he said the Digital Ministry would focus on efforts to promote the use of AI to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

"(In this Budget), we want to ensure that the cost (of using AI) is not too high so that it can be widely used.

“It is also important to ensure that the SMEs understand the technology, have access to it and encourage its widespread adoption on a larger scale," said Gobind.

Launched by Boost, a digital financial service and e-wallet app, Boost SME is a fully digital business banking platform that integrates digital banking services, financial solutions, and payment capabilities into a seamless ecosystem.

According to the group, the platform aims to help underserved SMEs embrace digitalisation and unlock new opportunities for business growth.
