MATRADE's Cambodia Export Mission Surpasses Target To Record RM186 Mln In Sales
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has recorded RM186 million in sales for its Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Cambodia, surpassing the initial target of RM100 million.
MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the achievement reflected the strong confidence and growing demand among Cambodian businesses for Malaysian products and services.
“This mission demonstrates the potential to take Malaysia-Cambodia trade beyond individual transactions towards deeper partnerships, stronger business linkages and sustainable growth for both countries,” he said in a statement today.
The export mission, led by Reezal Merican, comprised 26 Malaysian companies from high-growth sectors, including Fast-Moving Consumer Goods, halal-certified packaged foods, bio-fertilisers, speciality agricultural inputs, palm oil products, personal care and industrial engineering solutions.
Strategic partners, the Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia and Khmer Times, also supported the trade mission.
During the mission, MATRADE facilitated more than 260 curated business-to-business (B2B) meetings, connecting Malaysian exporters with Cambodian importers, retail chain buyers, and key distributors, including Chip Mong Retail, DKSH (Cambodia) Ltd, Goodhill Enterprise, and Westec Media.
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM5.0 billion in 2025, while trade in the first half of 2026 grew 51.1 per cent year-on-year to RM3.32 billion.
The recent Third Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation meeting in Kuala Lumpur saw the two countries reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations and advancing the target of achieving US$2 billion (US$1 = RM4.04) in bilateral trade within three years.
"To sustain this momentum, MATRADE will continue to monitor and facilitate business leads generated during the mission through its permanent office in Phnom Penh," the trade development agency added.
Cambodian corporate leaders and buyers were also invited to participate in the upcoming 22nd Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), scheduled for Sept 23 to Sept 26, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, providing opportunities to connect with Malaysian and international suppliers across multiple sectors.
