Malaysia’s Wholesale, Retail Trade Sales Rise To RM170.5 Bln In July 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade recorded sales of RM170.5 billion in July 2026, a nine per cent increase year-on-year (y-o-y), said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
In a statement today, DOSM said all three sub-sectors continued to grow in July 2026.
“Wholesale trade recorded sales of RM78.4 billion, an increase of RM8.2 billion or 11.7 per cent y-o-y. Retail trade increased by RM4.3 billion or 6.4 per cent to RM71.3 billion, while the motor vehicles sub-sector expanded by RM1.5 billion or 7.9 per cent to reach RM20.8 billion.
“Collectively, the three sub-sectors contributed RM14.1 billion to the increase in sales, led by wholesale trade, followed by retail trade and motor vehicles,” it said.
DOSM said wholesale trade remained the main driver of overall growth in July 2026, expanding by 11.7 per cent.
“The performance was mainly driven by the other specialised wholesale group, which surged by 22.8 per cent to RM31.7 billion. This was supported by higher sales of petrol, diesel, lubricants and liquefied petroleum gas,” it said.
The retail trade sub-sector continued to record positive performance in July 2026, with sales increasing by 6.4 per cent to RM71.3 billion.
“The performance was led by retail sales in non-specialised stores, which grew by 7.2 per cent to RM27.6 billion, supported by sales in supermarkets and department stores,” it said.
DOSM said the motor vehicles sub-sector grew 7.9 per cent in July 2026, driven mainly by motor vehicle sales, which rose 8.3 per cent to RM10.7 billion.
It added that the online retail sales index increased 7.4 per cent y-o-y in July 2026, albeit at a more moderate pace compared with 9.0 per cent in June 2026.
