Evocom Eyes Air Freight Transshipment Business Expansion To Australia, Middle East

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Evocom Bhd is looking to expand its air freight transshipment business, particularly on routes from China to Australia and the Middle East, as it seeks to diversify its operations beyond its core flexible staffing business.

Evocom mainly supplies manpower to support the logistics operations of online commerce platforms. It is headquartered in Semenyih.

Executive director and chief executive officer Ian Tan said the company has an existing partner in China that works with major e-commerce platforms in Guangzhou and Shenzhen to coordinate freight transshipments to Australia and the Middle East.

“Malaysia is very strategic in terms of deliveries to Australia and the Middle East because we have more flights over there.

“We are using this as an opportunity to grow this business,” he told a press conference following the company’s listing on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia here today.

Evocom opened at 15 sen, three sen below its initial public offering (IPO) price of 18 sen, with 3.49 million shares traded.

Tan said the company also has partnerships with several airlines, mainly Malaysia Airlines.

He said the transhipment business could generate significantly higher margins depending on the route, with shipments to Australia and Europe currently recording margins of between 30 and 35 per cent.

Executive director and deputy chief executive officer Dr Esther Loo said technology will complement the company’s manpower-based business by helping address labour shortages in the courier sector amid rising e-commerce volumes.

“The demand for e-commerce is scaling up. We can see volume is continuously going up. Because other job opportunities are available, couriers themselves are facing manpower shortages,” she said.

Loo said the company’s technology investment aims to improve the efficiency of its existing and potential future courier workforce, rather than replacing its manpower operations.

On the Nilai facility, Tan said soft launches are scheduled to begin on Oct 14, with trial shipments expected to be conducted over the following two to three months. It is expected to reach full capacity in the first quarter of 2027.

The facility is targeted to handle about 5,000 parcels per day and generate RM20,000 in daily revenue.
