New Automotive Investors Could Replace BYD In Tanjong Malim - Perak MB
IPOH, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Perak has confirmed that several automotive companies are interested in investing in KLK TechPark in Tanjong Malim, potentially replacing Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD Company Ltd, which previously withdrew from the project.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said KLK TechPark was in talks with several companies as it sought to optimise the industrial hub.
“KLK TechPark, as a stakeholder, is of course holding discussions with several parties to generate revenue to replace what was lost.
“Several investors from different sectors are being considered for entry into KLK TechPark, creating investment opportunities that had previously been planned with BYD,” he told reporters after officiating the launch of a 2-megawatt (MW) biogas renewable energy plant at the Papan Ulu Johan Sanitary Landfill here today.
On Sept 10, BYD Malaysia confirmed that it would not proceed with plans to establish a locally assembled (CKD) vehicle plant in Tanjong Malim, although it would continue with plans for local assembly operations in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the 2-MW plant at the site began operations on May 19 last year through a collaboration between Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and Teraju Sepadu Sdn Bhd.
Saarani said the partnership had also been strengthened through an Environmental Sustainability Programme and Community Contribution Agreement to develop programmes focused on public awareness, waste management and local community activities.
“The facility uses methane gas produced by the decomposition of solid waste to generate electricity.
“This approach not only enables waste resources to be used productively, but also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, in line with circular economy principles,” he said.
